The faces are also covered with fine teeth.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px; line-height: 25.2px; color: #404040; font-family: arial; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The sections on this page are paraffin sections (8 \u03bcm thick) stained with astra blue and basic fuchsin.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The first micrograph shows the tissues at the level of main vein (NP) with mesophyll cells from either side. They are large and contain cystoliths (blue stained), encrusted onto a stalk of cellulose (in red) connected to the wall of the cell.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Between the two epidermis (ep) the mesophyll is heterogeneous, with palisade parenchyma (adaxial face) and spongy parenchyma (abaxial face).<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px; line-height: 25.2px; color: #404040; font-family: arial; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unige.ch\/sciences\/biologie\/bioveg\/crevecoeur\/files\/cache\/29c2ac4828d9403f63e781d0e34ac3f7_f745.jpg\" alt=\"Site Coupe feuille ortie 2\" width=\"700\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p><p style=\"margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px; line-height: 25.2px; color: #404040; font-family: arial; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Below\u00a0: high magnification view of the vascular tissues of the main vein. From the adaxial toward the abaxial face we find\u00a0successively: xylem 1 (x1), xylem 2\u00a0(<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">x2<\/span>), cambium (c) and phloem. From either side there is parenchyma (<strong>par)<\/strong>.
